Shortlisted entry in the Professional category KL PHOTO AWARDS 2009: Exhibition Of Shortlisted Works & Photography Workshops Photography Exhibition & Workshops Thu 7 to Sun 24 May
The Annexe Gallery's new opening hours Sunday to Thursday, 11am to 8pm Friday & Saturday, 11am to 9.30pm
Presented by Explorenation.net, Time Out Kuala Lumpur, Amarin Sdn Bhd & The Annexe Gallery Admission Free From family snaps to fashion spreads, from photojournalism to studio art photography, the face remains the most photographed subject in the history of photography. While it’s easy to understand why portraits are popular, it’s not so easy to explain why certain portraits speak to us more than others. Taking a portrait that retains its subject’s humanity while conveying a powerful commentary at the same time is the Holy Grail of photography.
In association with Time Out Kuala Lumpur, the organisers of KL Photo Awards 2009 seek to find fresh new interpretations of this well trod genre, to discover emerging new talents in the field of portrait photography.
The first KL Photoawards 2009 competition which called for submission between November 2008 and March 2009 attracted some 500 entries from overseas and Malaysia. Entries were submitted in two categories: Professional and Non-Professional. Of the entries, 23 portraits in each category have been shortlisted for considerations for the top prizes. These 46 portraits in total will be showcased in an exhibition of shortlisted works at The Annexe Gallery in conjunction with the awards.
A catalogue featuring the shortlisted works will be available for sale at RM50 per copy.
The judges of the KL Photo Awards include: Beverly Yong – Director of RogueArt, a regional art consultancy based in Kuala Lumpur. Pang Khee Teik – Arts Programme Director for The Annexe Gallery.
